Nav N Go-sponsored SceneCON 2008 Demo Contest a Great Success
SceneCON 2008, a demoscene party sponsored by Nav N Go, a committed supporter of innovations, was held in the Csokonai Culture Center in Budapest. The demoscene party, held this year for the third time, brought together almost 120 programming and PC fans, including developers from various IT companies, as well as musicians, game-console fans and enthusiastic amateurs all eager to exchange ideas.
The event, which took place on 12-13 July in the Csokonai Culture Center in Budapest (affectionately known as Csoki, which is the Hungarian word for chocolate), is growing in popularity, as shown by the fact that not only Hungarian teams, but also an Austrian demo team took part in this year’s contest.

The huge party brought together the most talented individuals and teams in the Hungarian demoscene, starting at 10 on Saturday morning, and lasting until 6 on Sunday morning. Visitors arrived non-stop, some of them carrying a PC under their arms. The event witnessed a large variety of platforms: old Commodores, Amigas, and Ataris. The participants had the opportunity to try out state-of-the-art game consoles, such as PlayStation3, Nintendo Wii, and XBox 360, and watch a number of game demos as well. In the meantime, the teams taking part in the demo contest were busy putting the finishing touches on their half-ready creations.

The official program started in the afternoon. The first presentation, given by Genesi, was about a platform called Efika, which rather resembles a small PC. Another presentation, this time by a Nav N Go developer, discussed the efficiency of the C++ program language. Those attending gained an insight into the world of Pocket PCs with low-level performance; they could also learn some clever tricks to improve this performance. Early in the evening, participants pitted their wits against each other in two different games, Guitar Hero and Stepmania, both of which were immensely popular.

The demo contest itself began in the evening, with the prizes organized under three main topics: Graphics, Music, and Software. The winner of the Graphics category was ‘Goddess of Ice’, designed by Rascy (Dilemma Team). The Photo category proved to be the most popular, with a total of 11 competitive works. In the jury's judgment, the best photo was ‘I Has Weed’, taken by Zoom (Conspiracy Team). All kinds of styles were entered in the Music category; and the first prize went to Shaman with his piece of work called ‘Love is Here Tonight’. The Intro category was divided into subcategories; and the winner of the 4K Intro was ‘4K-ing Dancer’ by Stan. The intro called ‘NO?’ made by United Force got the first prize in the 64K subcategory. The most important category, at least from the developers’ and Nav N Go’s point of view, was the Demo category, where ‘Temptation’, developed by the Hologram Team, triumphed over the others.

All the competitors were given a Nav N Go gift package; and the winners of the three main categories were each presented with a Nav N Go iGO 8 software package.
