Unique Multimedia Experience for Next Generation Personal Navigation Devices
Nav N Go and QNX to announce strategic partnership at CeBIT 2008CeBIT Hanover, March 4, 2008 – Nav N Go, one of the leading GPS navigation solution providers, today announced that it is working with QNX Software Systems, the industry leader in real-time, embedded OS technology, to address the growing demand for detailed, yet easy-to-use navigation solutions for in-car and portable navigation devices. Nav N Go’s enhanced 3D navigation software, Nav N Go iGO 8, integrated in QNX’s fault-tolerant architecture will leverage their individual strengths to cost effectively bring high-end form and function to next generation navigation systems. Visitors of CeBIT trade show can get a 1:1 demo of the new embedded 3D solution live at Nav N Go’s booth G14 in hall 14.
“As the market becomes increasingly flooded with low-cost navigation solutions, quality and multi-media capabilities have become the key differentiators for leading brands. Therefore, we welcome QNX's leadership in the automotive sector, and bringing an embedded solution to the mass market together,” said Leon van de Pas, CEO of Nav N Go.
With the combined solution, with Nav N Go’s navigational software on top of QNX’s operating system, customers can easily improve the capabilities of their personal navigation devices. The solution provides end users with a rich set of options for displaying and overlaying maps, control buttons, MP3 and other digital media. QNX can also leverage its Adobe Flash player to blend Flash content with the Nav N Go iGO 8 software. Further, the new solution enables seeking smooth, lightning-fast image rendering of streets, 3D cityscapes, or even bird’s eye view of roadways. The solution currently runs on popular automotive and consumer grade hardware platforms.
“As navigation systems become increasingly complex and multimodal to include such compute-intense functions such as 3D mapping, speech technologies, and connectivity to off-board services and devices, QNX is uniquely positioned to best meet these needs,” said Andrew Poliak, Automotive Business Development Manager for QNX Software Systems. “This partnership is very ideal as QNX has more than 25 years experience with ultra critical devices in the automotive sector that need to be up and running reliably and Nav N Go delivers an industry leading 3D navigation software.”
Nav N Go iGO 8 provides an integrated multimedia experience, with a built-in music and video player and travel guides. With an interface that is clear, intuitive and easy to use, Nav N Go iGO 8 includes a ‘simple’ mode for less experienced users, and an ‘expert’ mode for advanced ones. The software comes with text-to-speech capability that offers directions with real city, street and highway names.
Key success features comprise easy portability to different hardware and OS platforms, its powerful compression technology and full customization capabilities of both user interface and workflow.
Known for its precise and affordable digital maps, Nav N Go iGO 8 covers more than 70 countries globally with navigable maps since recently including also Australia, Argentina, Cyprus and India. Due to the recent acquisition of Topmap, a Hungarian digital map provider, Nav N Go is able to support local map providers also in those regions where leading providers have no or only limited map coverage so far.
