’Addicted to Location’–Attracted by Locative Media, Supported by Nav N Go
The Budapest team of the international BEST (Board of European Students of Technology) community annually organizes a number of summer universities attended by students from a large number of countries around the world. The main topic of this year’s workshop focused on the strong and growing presence of locative media. Locative media is a new notion, dealing with the presence in cities of location-based services (which were originally developed for military purposes), as well as with research into the opportunities they offer. The BEST Summer University this year took place in the Budapest Kitchen, lasting from 21st until 31st July (http://www.kitchenbudapest.hu/hu/node/63). This year’s slogan was ’Addicted to Location’, that is, focusing on location-based services.
The international mobile communication workshop was attended by young engineers from 22 countries, with the aim of listening to presentations about satellite localization and locative media. Participants from the most prominent universities of Europe had the chance make themselves familiar with the latest technologies and creative solutions on the market, and also had the opportunity to work on individual projects.
Students at the summer university were also given information on our company, as two Nav N Go developers, József Mihalicza and László Szép, gave a lecture on the software company. The presentation by our staff members also discussed the practical effects of current developments, as well as issues concerning resolution, error-message handling, the variety and compatibility of devices, and storage capacity.
“We were glad to see that these young students, dedicated to new technologies and arriving from all over the world, showed a keen interest in a navigation solution developed by a Hungarian company” said Gergely Erdős, Communications Director of Nav N Go.
The main task of the Kitchen workshop was to provide the young researchers with enough space and the right tools for some serious thinking, for creative teamwork, as well as to find answers to the questions and demands concerning the development of communication technologies, which play such an increasing role in our everyday lives.
